Playing at Royal St Davids was a great challenge. It has amazing views of the Harlech Castle and is on the coast, which provided strong winds during play. Playing here was my first experience of links golf, I needed to adapt my game and shot style to score well.
The course was open and wide but if you missed a fairway you'd be stuck in the thick rough. Whether the wind caught your ball or you hit and offline shot you would be punished. Playing into the greens was not easy either, you had to allow for a 10-30 meter roll out to all approach shots. It made it so tricky to set up for makable birdie putts.
I learnt a lot this week about playing links golf and hope to use this in my next event.
After a rusty start playing my first event in the UK I am looking forward to playing int the Irish Stoke-play Championship next week at County Louth GC.
